Vacuum Safety Tips

Many people are unaware of potentially dangerous situations or the simple steps that can be taken to prevent accidents while vacuuming. When shopping for an upright vacuum cleaner, try to find a model that is well balanced and does not tip over easily. Balance is better when the hose connector is located at the base of your upright vacuum. Also try to find models that have a safety switch on the handle so when you release your grip the agitator brush will stop rotating.

If you’re pets have tendency to charge the vacuum they could hurt themselves or you by pulling or knocking over the vacuum cleaner. Put them outside or in another room until you finish vacuuming. Consider placing small children in a crib or playpen before you start to clean the floor, curious children may get fingers stuck in the power nozzle.

Most people rush from room to room and around furniture trying to finish vacuuming as quickly as possible. Unfortunately when pushing and pulling the vacuum it may lift up off the floor an inch or two allowing your toes to accidentally get caught underneath. Wearing indoor runners or slippers will help prevent toes from getting caught in the power nozzle.
