How to Clean Carpet Stains - Glue and Adhesives
Many stains caused by glue, adhesives or similar products can be removed with minimal effort. The key to removing all or most of the stain is to use the right products and follow a few simple procedures. In many cases the final result will have your carpet looking as it did prior to the stain.
First, remove as much of the glue/adhesive as possible, try using a spatula, spoon or blunt object, do not use a knife as this may cut and damage the carpet. Next apply a tar, adhesive or grease remover to the area and let soak for 5-10 minutes. Many of these products are found at your local hardware store. Blot the area with a clean white cloth; remember DO NOT SCRUB as this will damage the carpet fibers.
Finish treating the stain by rinsing the area with clean cold water and blot dry with a clean white cloth, removing as much of the excess water as possible. Next spot dry the area with a blow dryer, use a circular motion. Adjust the blow dryer to blow cold air, not hot air; the heat could possible damage the fibers of the carpet. Vacuum the area to help it blend in with the rest of the carpet.
